Kadavu Island - Transportation
Transportation: Getting here!

|
1. Scheduled Flights
The most commonly used method of travel by our guests are the daily island-hopper flights from the main island of Viti Levu.
Each arrival day, Matava Resort sends a transfer boat down to the airport at Vunisea where the driver greets our new arrivals and assists with their luggage. Guests are transfered by a 3 minute truck drive to the other side of the island where the boat awaits for the 45 minute boat ride to the resort.
The journey is entirely within the inner shallow water lagoons of the Great Astrolabe barrier reef and the vessel carries suitable safety equipment such as lifejackets, distress flares, rockets and mobile phone. If you arrive on the first flight and the resort has guests arriving on the second flight, you may have to wait for their arrival. Because of the journey time to the resort, it is not practical for the transfer boat to make two trips. Any such wait should be less than 30 minutes.

Pacific Sun flies twice each day Nadi - Kadavu - Nadi and also flies once each day Suva - Kadavu- Suva. These flights drop off guests on Kadavu's Vunisea airport and pick up departing guests, returning them to their destinations on the main island.
Pacific Sun leaves Nadi at 11.00am arriving Kadavuat 12.15pm. It then departs Kadavuat 1.30pm arriving back in Nadi at 2.15pm.
Pacific Sun is owned by Air Pacific so guests traveling on Air Pacific can book direct to Kadavuisland.

2. Ferry Service
There is one scheduled ferry service which sails Suva - Vunisea - Kavala Bay - Suva
The ferry sails twice a week departing Suva late at night on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Its about a 7 hour passage to Vunisea which means you arrive at about 6.00am. We are able to collect guest off the ferry when it arrives in Vunisea though we must have prior notice.
You may have to wait several hours for the scheduled flights to arrive if the resort has guests arriving on those flights. It is usually not possible for the resort transfer boat to collect you from the ferry, transfer you to the resort and then return to the airport for later guests arriving on scheduled island-hopper flights.
The ferries not only carry passengers but also freight and livestock to the island. You therefore may find yourself sharing passage with building supplies and chickens. This method of transport to the island of Kadavu is not for the feint hearted.

3. Seaplane
Some guests occasionally choose to fly out to the resort by seaplane. It is a wonderful experience and a great opportunity to sight-see the island from the air. It also means that you don't have to wait for a scheduled air service and can fly in at your convenience, straight to the resort.

4. Big Game Boat Transfer
Alternatively, guests with a penchant for a bit of angling adventure can charter Bite Me, the resort's 31ft DeepV gamefishing vessel.
You are collected from the Suva Yacht Club early in the morning and fish your way to the resort. Stopping off at key fishing locations along the way such as Solo Attol and the Ono drop-off, you arrive at the resort in the early evening and present your catch to the waiting resort chef to be prepared for your dinner. Bite Me can transfer up to four guests.
Contact Matava Resort for details.
